04/08/2009 - Black Lane/Tom Nook footpath improvements...
The footpath which runs down past the side of the pub and leads to Turton Road is
under going substantial refurbishment. Over the past three years the path has had its
surface upgraded and overgrown vegetation cut back and now the lower part is being
resurfaced. This is the old Packhorse Route to Rossendale and is referred to as Tom
Nook, and also as Black Lane in many documents, and was even mentioned in the
court rolls of 1531. The depth of the path below the surrounding ground level gives an
indication of it age and previous usage.

The Village website went offline from Weds 26th Nov until Weds 2nd Dec. Unfortunately
this was beyond our control. It would appear that we had exceed our bandwidth
(amount of visitors) due to the growing popularity of the website. This shouldn’t
happen again as we have been given greater bandwidth by our web hosts Core Digital,
and as we are a charity they have waived their charge for us too!

May 2010 - Dog Poo Bag Dispenser
We seem to get many visitors who see the Green as an ideal dog
toilet. In order to reduce this problem we were granted funding to
buy a dog mess bag dispenser. This was kindly installed by our
Green Chairman, Tony, and was unveiled by both our local MP
David Nuttall and local Councillor Yvonne Wright.
David was accompanied by his dalamation CeCe who was very
well behaved and thus David did not require the services of the
new dispenser. We hope this will help to clear up the problem
