Calendar of Events
This is the Calendar of events for the Village up to
December 2010.
Monday 24th May Before 10am to 20 Watling Street.
Clothes collection- in association with ‘Clothes Line’ of Bury
Many thanks to all of you who contributed to the last collection
when we raised £136. So now Spring has sprung, take the
opportunity to have a clear out and remember to leave your
WELL sealed bags at the end of 20 Watling St before 10am.
NOTE: This time we are using a different company and you
need to provide your own bags. They collect good quality used
ladies’, men’s and children’s clothing and shoes, bedding,
curtains, belts and handbags.
Sunday 6th June - 1.30pm
Annual Affetside French Boules Competition on the Village
Green.
This will be the 8th Boules Competition since the first nail-biting
one in 2003! There will be trophies for junior and senior
winners. French food and wine will be provided and you can
even dress in French fancy dress if you wish (optional). There
will be a prize for the best costumes junior and senior. Please
come along with family and friends to join fellow villagers in
this fun competition. There will be a small entrance fee to play
(£2 per adult and £1 for children) and a small charge for the
“as much as you can eat” French food buffet. It will be great to
see you on the day. Any profits go to village funds.
Saturday 10th July
Affetside Summer BBQ from 6p.m. Village Green.
This will be the 5th village BBQ and we hope you and your
family and friends will come to enjoy and support the event.
Excellent food and a bar will be available with dancing in the
marquee. Tickets will be available nearer the time. All profits
will go to the Affetside Millennium Green Trust which helps to
maintain the village green for everyone’s enjoyment. If you
can’t attend the evening but would like to buy a ticket/make a
donation to support the village green trust that would be
appreciated as, without the support of the villagers, it would be
impossible to keep our village green looking as good as it is,
and in a safe state for all visitors to enjoy. Please join fellow
villagers for this evening in the sun. (Marquees are up in case
the sun doesn’t show up for some unknown reason!!!!!)
Friday 5th November
Affetside village bonfire 6.30p.m. on the land to rear of
village green.
Yes, this is a FRIDAY, but it is a good opportunity to celebrate
on the night itself. Please join fellow villagers and enjoy
Roseanne’s legendary meat and potato pie, black peas and
hot dogs plus the fully licensed bar. It is with the kind
permission of Stephen Clague from West Linton who owns the
land and the stable we use as the food servery and bar that we
are able to hold our village bonfire. As you may have seen
Stephen has got his house up for sale and so if it is sold then
the new owner may not be as community spirited as Stephen
and we may lose our venue. We will keep you posted nearer the
time.
Sunday 28th November
Santa’s BIG SWITCH ON
Affetside Christmas tree lights by Satan on the village green at
6p.m. prompt! Santa always manages to fit in quick a visit to
the village at the end of November to switch on the Christmas
tree lights and give presents to all village children and
grandchildren. Be there at 6p.m to see Santa arrive on his
tractor!
Monday 29th November 10am - Clothes Collection
